About the event

Join us for a relaxed, creative ceramic butter dish making workshop where you’ll design and build your own functional piece using a slab-rolling handbuilding technique. This pottery workshop is suitable for beginners, though some prior introduction to working with clay will be helpful.

In Part 1, students will learn how to roll slabs of clay and construct a butter dish from scratch. You’ll be guided through choosing your preferred shape, assembling your form, and refining the structure to create a sturdy, well-balanced ceramic butter dish.

After a 30–45 minute lunch break, we’ll move into Part 2, focusing on surface decoration. Using paper stencilling and coloured slips, you’ll explore layering techniques to build up texture, pattern, and visual interest. You’ll also design and add a unique handle to your butter dish lid, giving your piece a thoughtful and personal finish.

Lunch is not provided, so we recommend bringing a packed lunch or…
